MGN FAQ
02\06\2013 A big thank you to everyone who attended MGN XI last Friday... you made it one of the best events in a long time. We estimate around 140-150 people came in total. It was a little hairy at first, because we had to share the food court with a ton of Harvard students attending a Model UN conference (those who went to MGN X last year remember this happening as well... our luck, right?) Eventually we got everything under control, and lots of games were being played until they finally kicked us out around 10:30 or so. If you're interested in seeing pictures of the event, you can set some of them here. No news on when we're doing the next MGN, but we recommend that you like our MGN Facebook page so that you're notified about any developments with game nights over the next few months. Take care, and see you at MGN XII! 01\31\2013 Tomorrow's the big night! Unlike our game nights in the past, this one got a lot of public exposure, so we’re uncertain how many people will be attending. There are around 220 people signed up between all of the different groups on Meetup. I expect both sides of the floor to be full. As I’ve mentioned, we have a couple of games we’ll be raffling off. The Microsoft Store has been kind enough to donate some cool stuff. We’ll also have one or two cash prizes. You'll be able to buy tickets either at the info booth or from the staff. The raffle will be held at 8pm. Tickets will be $1/piece. Last year, the tickets went very quickly, so be sure to pick them up as soon as you can! Remember, be sure to bring your favorite card or board game! Be prepared to make some new friends and have some fun :) See you all tomorrow! 01\29\2013 T-minus 3 days and counting! Are you getting excited? Like every MGN, we'll be holding a raffle, and do we have some cool stuff to give away. Here's a peek of some of the goodies: We'll be holding the raffle at 8pm. Tickets will be $1 a piece. 01\26\2013 It's been a while since our last update! We've been using our Facebook page more actively for posting updates, so if you haven't checked it out, now would be a good time :) We've got over 100+ attendee signups and close to a dozen organizations signed up for the big event on Friday. We plan on running the event much like MGN X -- with separate areas for party games, strategy games and those who just want to socialize. I'll be uploading the floor plan, (along with other planned activities) later this week. Be sure to tell all your friends... this is going to be an event you don't want to miss! 01\13\2013

We've gotten confirmation from our first set of Meetup groups that they will be attending MGN XI. Already, we have around 70 people from Meetup signed up for the event (this doesn't include Facebook invites or the general public). Not a bad response! We have other verbal confirmations from other groups that will be added once they've posted our event.
Here are the groups that have signed up so far. These are some of the best groups in the area, so it's worth your while to check them all out and see if any of them might interest you.

Howdy strangers! Did you miss us?
Winter is here again, so it's time for another game night. Due to some unforeseen issues we were only able to have one MGN last year... hopefully this won't be the case in 2013.
This event is still in the planning stages, but we will be holding MGN 11 on the evening of Friday, February 1st in the Prudential Center Food Court. Stay tuned for more information about what to expect when you come. Be sure and tell a friend -- this is slated to be the biggest game nite yet!
1\29\2012 MGN X turned out to be a great success. We had between 130-160 people show up. Although there was a issue with a huge group of students at the beginning, everything ended up working out. A big thanks to Sarah and Biagio from Social Fun for helping clear out the area. Thanks to your the generosity of attendees, we were able to collect $84 from the 50/50 Mega Raffle, and we made a donation to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. 1\27\2012 All systems go! We'll have the information booth set up around 6pm. Games will begin at 6:30pm. See you tonight! 1\26\2012 36 hours and counting! We're not too excited, are we :) Cheeseboy is the latest business who will be participating in MGN tomorrow night. They'll be providing attendees with some special deals and raffle prizes. We finally have a charity for our 50/50 Mega Raffle! The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest voluntary (nonprofit) health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. Their Team in Training and Light The Night Walk have been instrumental in fundraising for these terrible diseases. 50% of all raffle proceeds will be donated to LLS. 1\24\2012 MGN is three days away, and we can hardly contain our excitement. It is scheduled to be the most attended game nite we have held, with nearly 150 confirmed attendees. Just a reminder that this MGN will actually be two game nites in one. The Strategy Bunker will be available for the strategy and enthusiast gamers, on the other side of Cheeseboy. However, the 'official' check in booth will be in its usual location, near Pizzeria Regina. Here's a map showing the layout in the Terrace Food Court. The main info booth is listed in bright red: Since my last post, we have received some additional offers for all attendees.
1\19\2012 Free / Cheap Things to Do In Boston, a new Meetup group focusing on fun and inexpensive events, becomes our 11th organization to participate in next Friday's Game Nite. Over 300 people have signed up for their events in a week... this group looks like it will be pretty successful. Check 'em out! 1\16\2012 Wanted to provide everybody with some updates... Attendance for MGN X is very hot right now, with over 100 people signed up over each of our participating groups. This is looking to be one of the best events ever :) Yes, we are going to hold our famous MGN 50/50 Raffle, with a number of additional prizes from some of the local stores in the area. We are still determining the structure for the cash prizes (as well as the charity the raffle will benefit) so stay tuned! One of the great things about holding the event at the Prudential Center is the wide variety of eateries and restaurants that are nearby. Many participants come early to have dinner in the food court, and there are always after-parties at the local restaurants to continue the fun once the event is over with. We hope that you'll check them out during your visit on event night. A big thank you to Prudential Center restaurant wagamama, who has graciously provided us with gift certificates and other goodies for our MGN Raffle! Come to information booth at the event to pick up some wagamama swag! Tasty! 1\10\2012 We now have ten Meetup groups joining us on the 27th... Welcome "SE Massachusetts 20's, 30's and 40's Couples"! Remember, if you run a group and would like to participate in MGNX, just send an email to one of the event organizers. We've already heard from a number of vendors over at Prudential Center, who will be providing special offers from MGN attendees. We should have some additional information over the next few days. 1\2\2012 Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! Although we are still over three weeks away, we already have 60-70 people signed up through each of participating Meetup groups. We expect to have a record turnout this evening. One of the questions brought up was with Cheeseboy in the middle of our former playing space, how would we be able to manage the event with the large number of people? We are going to manage this by splitting the gaming areas into two -- we'll be giving the strategy gamers their own dedicated section to the right of Cheeseboy. This should provide all attendees with plenty of space during the event (and makes the temptation for getting a tasty grilled cheese sandwich totally irresistible!) 12\28\2011 The response for MGN X is out of control!!! So far, we have 10 Meetup groups signed up to participate. Check out the list of the participating groups here. They are all excellent and well-run organizations... you should check them out! 12\26\2011 Happy Holidays everyone! All of you have been good, so as a stocking stuffer we are pleased to announce another MGN in the Food Court over at the Prudential Center next month! This will be our tenth GameNite in this location. With the opening of Cheeseboy in the middle of our play space, it appeared that our game nights at the Prudential were coming to an end. However, we think we've been able to work out the logistics to continue these events in 2012. This event will actually be three game nites in one... while we'll continue to have a large section for attendees to socialize and play party games, there will be two new areas:
The winter months have been a popular time for game nights, so we expect to see a lot of people at MGN X. There will be many Meetup groups from the Boston area in attendance, so you will have an opportunity to learn about some of the great organizations in the area. We're in the process of putting together lots of goodies and surprises for attendees, so visit this page regularly to get the latest updates. We look forward to seeing you on the 27th! 3\19\2011 A big thank you to everyone who made last night a big success. Our attendance was around 160 people. The room was filled with a lot of energy, and everyone was in high spirits. As organizers we already love it when an event goes well. As a result of our 50/50 raffle, along with separate donations, we were able to donate $111 to Habitat for Humanity to assist with the reconstruction in Japan. Thank you for your generosity. It was greatly appreciated. While we will be taking a break from the Game Nites for now... we are looking at doing an MGN during the day, at the Esplanade. Stay tuned to our Facebook page to keep in touch with future events. 3\18\2011 We're making our last minute preparations for this evening's event. Just finished printing out some signs and name tags, getting the raffle supplies, and packing a set of fun games. All signs point to a well, attended and exciting event tonight. The weather is supposed to be rather nice this evening, so it's a great excuse to come into the city and have fun with some great people. We'll be setting up a little before 6:30pm in the rear of the food court. See you then! 3\16\2011 To help those who are suffering as a result of the earthquakes and tsunami in Japan, we've decided that all proceeds from our 50/50 raffle will go to Habitat for Humanity to assist with the reconstruction of affected areas. We'll also be taking donations as well. It is estimated that more than 10,000 people have perished from the effects of the earthquake, and nearly a half million people are living in temporary shelters. Even if you don't make it on Friday, we know that a lot of help is needed over there. Here's a list of organizations that could use your assistance. 3\14\2011 MGN 9 is this week! Are you excited? :) One of the issues that we have at these events is that since we have so many different types of games being played, that it is sometimes a challenge getting people into a game that they enjoy. For this meetup, we are going to attempt to make special seating areas for different types of games. For example, we'll have the more social games towards the front, and the strategy games in the quiet areas by the back wall. We think that this will make it easier for people to find games that they like, as like games should be close to one another. We heard from Pizzeria Regina, who have confirmed that they will be offering their standard Game Nite Special: a free soda with every purchase. Yet another perk for chowing down at MGN on Friday.... 3\7\2011 Just a heads-up that if you come to Prudential Center on a semi-regular basis, you should friend the Shops at Prudential Center Facebook page. They have various giveaways throughout the year, and you could end up winning something sweet! Please note that photography and other film footage may be taken at the event, which may include recognizable images of participants on video. By participating in this event, you consent to being photographed or filmed, and you authorize any media to use this footage for display online or for other promotional purposes. |
